Name : Suzanne Haag Talley
Email :
Were/Are : Relative/Friend of Veterans Air founder, etc.
Via : Web Search
Message :
Trying to research my dad’s history. He collected papers re. this
airline, saying they were trying to start an airline after the war,
but it folded. Do you know of any friends/pilots who were
involved with your dad’s venture?
Walter Haag?
VeteransAir.org is a research & cataloging tool, a place to record the
discoveries I am able to reveal about my father’s airline – Veterans
Air Line and Veterans Air Express.

Suzanne,
This is Gaye Lyn Gravely Pollitt. You contacted me through my website,
Veterans Air. I am stunned, delighted and excited to hear from you
given your message to me.
I tried doing some research before responding just now, but I have
little to go on. Your father, and it sounds as though he is also “our”
Veterans Air Walter Haag, is among the 42 men about whom I’ve found no
information…other than his name on the very important list below of
the men who helped my Dad found the airline. Below is a screen shot
from the attached 3-page feature article written in July 1946 which will
tell you much more about Veterans Air. This list is at the bottom of
the second page of the article.
I am, of course, curious what press clipping you may still have that
your dad saved.
The only tiny bit of info I have about Veterans Air’s Walter Haag is in
an article on the website that I wrote about John Schaus. John said
your dad’s _name _sounded familiar to him…but that’s all. John saw
the list in the article.

After you stop walking around the house talking to yourself (which is
what I _hope _you are doing…since I know that would be _my _reaction
if I received a message like this about my Dad!!!) …perhaps we can
talk on the phone some day soon. At that time, perhaps you can give me
some additional, basic info so I can search further.
* his middle initial
* branch of service in WWII
* city, town where he was born
* his birthday
All very personal, I understand. I promise you, Suzanne, I am who I say
I am, and I would never use any information you provide other than for
additional research — all of which I will very happily share with you.
Eventually, I would like to know the following, but we can hold off on
that until you know me a little better. 😉
* your Mother’s name
* do you have siblings
* is Suzanne your given name or a derivation of your birth name
Thank you, thank you for contacting me. Here’s hoping our Dad’s knew
each other!!! Gives me the goose bumps to even think about it. My very
best,
Gaye Lyn

Suzanne, hello.
Since I have not heard from you, I believe my email written on 10/10 did
not get delivered or perhaps ended up in your spam. So I am trying
again, because I’d really love to be in touch…and it seems from your
message on that day on my website that you are in earnest pursuit of
info about your dad.
I was having email problems back then that are now fixed. So the
address from which I am sending this message is my preferred Veterans
Air email . Please respond to:
I hope to hear from you soon. Or call me! That would be even more fun.

Suzanne, hello.
I’m sending you a newspaper clipping in which, I believe, it is your dad
mentioned as the glider pilot (even if they misspelled his last name).
The clipping was found by the eldest son (Al Stettner) of one of the men
your dad undoubtedly met while at Veterans Air (Jack Stettner).
And I am also writing to apologize. I believe my first message to you
was “over the top,” possibly scary, and even confusing because my email
system was malfunctioning. By way of calm explanation, this research
project is precious to me — and the people who were involved in Dad’s
endeavor and their family members are the most important part. So your
first contact was more than exciting.
I hope this message finds you well and thriving.
Best regards,
Gaye Lyn
