List provided by my father, SAUNIE GRAVELY, in letter 30 years ago. I am
researching the airline he founded: Veterans Air Express, Veterans Air

and DC-4 aircraft flown by the airline.

Thanks, Jim. Really appreciate the quick response.
I have no idea if any of these dates contain feature stories – or are just
brief mentions. So I’ll be very interested in what you find.
It was HPC Publishing that gave me contact info for Key Publishing. I
emailed Key last week about archive copies, but haven’t heard back yet.
Both publishers are in the UK, if that helps.
Best regards,
g.

Hi Gaye Lyn:
Sorry it took me so long to get back to you.
…but I’m afraid I came up empty.
…As you probably know, most libraries contain bound volumes of old periodicals. To this end, if you
are really keen, go to a library and ask the reference librarian to help you
check out the ‘Union List of Serials’. This is a five-volume reference
last printed in the 1960s which lists details of periodicals and, more
importantly, which libraries stocked them at that time. Of course this
information is now generations old but it may yield a lead.
Best,

Barb, hi.
Going crazy here. All kinds of good things surfacing and I’m trying to
stay organized! One of my “network” people found a brochure from my
Dad’s airline and is gifting it to me!!! Cannot wait to get it!
Sending you this email from Vintage Magazines. Wondering if you are
familiar with his mention of:
‘Union List of Serials‘. This is a five-volume reference last

Have a grand day.

Oh yes, I’m familiar with the Union List of Serials … though haven’t
seen it in decades. (I’m sure it was updated since the 60s.) There are
certainly other ways to get at this information.
Are you familiar with worldcat.org? Check it out.

Yes, I’ve used WorldCat. That’s how I found some of the resources I’ve requested from you.
Spent 30 minutes on phone this morning with John Corpening, author of book you obtained for me, FORGOTTEN FLIGHTS. Delightful man! He’s the one sending me my Dad’s brochure. I forgot about YOUR connection in this!!!!
Anyway, he says the Northwestern University Library has an extensive Transportation Library. I knew that already and have been in touch with their head Transportation librarian, Roberto. But John says most of his research came from two periodicals which he had access to at Northwestern (John lives in a Chicago suburb). Two pubs were: American Aviation and Aviation Week. I’m now going to double back to see if I have access to those databases. If not, I’ll contact Roberto again.
Thanks for all the help, Barb.
Stay cool,
Gaye
