Biographical Info: Captain William C. Jakeman was my father. Captain
Jakeman flew UNRRA 1st missions behind the Iron Curtain in 1946 …. I
have an old newspaper clipping of the crew on arrival … Have to dig it
out of our mothballed scrapbooks. I followed in his footsteps and
retired from HAWAIIAN AIRLINES having been a part of their international
expansion beginning in the early 80’s. This was an amazing and wonderful
find ! Love to know more of what his involvement was in the founding of
this historical airline.

Jake, hello.
I am so excited you found me. Just today, one more time, I was looking
for ANYTHING more substantial on your Dad. Never found his military
records. Know he was born in Canada; got that from August and November
1947 crew manifests after he flew for my Dad’s airline, and have his
name in a 1930 Census – showing your grandparents as Harry W and Alma C
Jakeman and his younger sister Bethia – if, in fact, this his your Dad
and his family living in Massachusetts. That record I am not sure
about.
Jake, you have no idea!!! You are REALLY a find! and you are the second
family member (the other family was son and grandson of John Greenleaf,
Sr.) who found me via my website. It was my hope and intention when I
set up the website, but wishing and hoping doesn’t ALWAYS materialize
such Treasure!
Let’s talk…okay.
Here’s my cell: XXX-XXX-XXXX. Please call when you can or send an
email and we’ll set up a time. I live in Santa Fe, on Mountain time.
My very best to you. And thanks so much for following up. Can’t wait
to hear how you found the site – and to swap stories!
