Jack’s “Kids” Exchange Birthday Emails with Gaye Lyn.

Dearest Family,

I am with you today to celebrate your dad’s birthday and memories. You
know he was the first of Saunie’s men that I met. It’s a forever
memory. I told Scott a few days ago in an email that today I will
celebrate Jack by having an ice cream cone! SOMEWHERE in Santa Fe, I
should be able to find one. And, if not, how does a Root Beer Float
with Chocolate Frozen Yogurt sound??? Mmmm! THAT I can do from home!
And perhaps that’s the safest (and yummiest) way to go this year.

The Stettners — all of you — helped me realize the worth of my
research adventure. From our very first phone calls on that day I found
your dad … and the days after … you made me feel “to home” and
allowed me to be comfortable in having impinged upon your privacy. I
never felt that way. Your welcoming response made me more confident in
pursuing other families. So, finding Jack was beyond any dream or
intention of my research. Finding your family, making me feel to home,
was and still is precious to me.

Big hugs. And Happy Birthday, Jack.
It is my honor,
Gaye Lyn

Thanks for the birthday sentiments! You know how thrilled he was (us
too) to meet you and to be part of the Veterans re-emergence.

Dear Gaye Lyn

remembering Jack today and enjoy every second of your root beer float!!
Mostly, stay healthy and safe.
