Robert C. Chambers Family

1945 Veterans Air Express families gather.

Seated under a patio umbrella from Buffy, Gaye Lyn, Jack and Bob.

Another fun, improbable gathering of Veterans Air “kids.” Buffy Noll, Bob Chambers and their spouses Jack and Diana. In Texas. On the first official stop of Gaye Lyn’s June 2019 VAE research trip.

Eason, Chambers families attend talk

Eight family members share stories 70+ years after their three dads founded and crewed the aircraft of 1945 Veterans Air Express. Their smiles tell the rest of the story.

Not in a million years in April 2015 when I began this research would I have imagined such a gathering and the opportunity to present our Fathers’ story with them in the audience. Come meet second and third generation VAE families — Chambers and Eason.

Veterans Air expanded friendships

A map shows the far-reaching route during the summer of 2018 Veterans Air Express research trip...from Santa Fe NM to Prescott AZ and as far northwest as Ashland OR then to Salt Lake City for a round-trip flight to Washington DC.

Thousands of land and air miles, days and weeks on the road, and terrific contact with folks who live and breath aviation. They shared insights into the history of the Non-sked air line era and showed honest interest in the Veterans Air story. Doesn’t get much better than that!
